Teacher Lesson Packs and Home Learning Packs

The Checkpoint Teacher Lesson Packs were introduced in Checkpoint Magazine Kids but quickly evolved into a standalone product specifically targeting primary school children. Following their success in classrooms, they have been adapted for the new Checkpoint Connected Curriculum (CCC). They remain a core part of our offering for the education sector. They have always (and will always) stay free for schools. They are an excellent introduction to the Checkpoint Learning pedagogy.

The lessons are written to satisfy Ofsted’s (and the UK Government'sarrow-up-right) focus on substantive and disciplinary knowledge but approach assessment differently. Instead of measuring attainment through grades, Checkpoint lessons assess understanding through discussion and engagement. Each pack acknowledge teachers how children think, not just what they remember.

Every Teacher Lesson Pack released includes detailed learning outcomes, key vocabulary and links to programmes of study. They can be taught as single lessons or expanded into longer sequences. Experienced teachers often adapt them to explore a concept more deeply, while others follow them as written. Both approaches meet the same goal: to help children see how knowledge connects and why it matters. Checkpoint’s tenets underpin every lesson. There are no game consoles or requirements to play the games in class. The learning principles, drawn from gaming, shape how the material is presented and discussed.

The Home Learning Packs share the same lineage. They are written in a more accessible style for families and children learning at home. Each pack is self-contained and encourages independent thinking. They guide the learner through the topic using practical examples that can be explored with or without grown-up support. Again, you can try these for freearrow-up-right.

Both formats embody Checkpoint’s belief that learning should be accessible, evidence-based and culturally relevant. They place the learning in a context that children understand while providing an environment where problem-solving and critical thinking can flourish, giving the learner real agency in their world.
